Tending to the Tributaries

Today was a realization in a heart warming discussion with a colleague. A beautiful image that came to me. The words sometime flow and these did just that. I advised someone on the power of "tending to their tributaries."

The river of life runs and the force can sometimes be too much for us to get our footing to find our purpose when wading in the currents. Treading water can be exhausting. Navigating currents can be draining. And when you are focused on survival, it is hard to envision, dream and wonder about anything other than catching your next breath.

Yes, you can throw a seed into the forging and flowing current, but where that seed will slow and find a place to grow is on the tributaries. After all, this is only where it can find ground to come to a stop, and feel the earth as a bed, as a cradle, as a place to put roots.

The river's sole purpose is to carry water, and as the force of the water deepens and widens the riverbed, the river fulfills its purpose more. Likewise, the riverbed of the heart is worn open over time to carry what is living."
